Julie Bernstein, founder of Second Valley Events, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and a Master's degree from the Oregon Health & Science University Physician Assistant Program.
She launched Second Valley Events to help people who are keen to truly design the end of their lives, even up to and through death. She recognizes that joy and celebration sometimes play an equally meaningful role alongside grief at end of life events and that sometimes, the best way to honor a beloved person is to really celebrate them, their incredible connections with others, the love they carried and the impact they had.
Prior to launching Second Valley Events, Julie practiced geriatric medicine as a physician assistant and associate professor of medicine at Oregon Health & Science University hospital from 2011-2022, providing care to hospitalized older adults in all stages of health and frailty and through the end of their lives.
With this expertise in hospital and palliative medicine, medical prognosis, frailty, hospice care, death & dying, Julie knew that the end of life can at times be isolating and lonely. She also watched families suffer regret in not being able to spend more time with loved ones before their passing. Second Valley Events aims to change that model and allow for deep connection, gathering with loved ones and celebrating the experiences that make us human and connected with others.
